A good friend recently asked me, “What have you learned in 35 years of life?” I rambled off a few constants I think about, like the only thing that’s guaranteed in life is change and surprise, so you’d better be adaptable, resilient, and ready to grow. How my view on what’s important has changed from life’s checklist to joyful fulfillment and experience.
However, when I really think about it, the biggest lesson I’ve learned in 35 years is how important the people are that you get to share this crazy, beautiful world with. Sure, introspection and deep personal work are crucial—I love reading philosophy and contemplating meaningful questions—but in the end, we’re all a reflection of our families, friends, teachers, coaches, mentors, role models, and communities we participate in, and I’m very fortunate to have my unique combination.
To everyone who’s played a role, shaped me, and made me smile, thank you. I hope I spread some of that positivity back out into the world, because you’re all amazing, and I’m lucky to have you.
